I wanted to make you aware of these two workshops that St. Giles is hosting. One of the things our elders have been talking and praying about is how the Lord is leading us as individuals and a church to love more intentionally those who are outside the Christian community. These equipping events could be helpful toward that end.
May 6-7, Dr. Allan Dayhoff, a PCA pastor from the DC area, will be presenting on how we can evangelize in our current cultural climate, giving special attention to truly hearing our non-believing neighbors and knowing them as friends. In addition to doing his research for this through his church in a blues bar (!), Allan’s Evangelize Today ministry has accumulated much data on the big picture for evangelism in this “post-Christian” era. The event will be on Friday evening and Saturday. You can get a taste of Allan’s evangelism ministry at his website: http://www.evangelizetoday.info/#!et-discovery-day/col0. And you can register on-line.
June 3-4, Chris Walker and Allen and Debbie Kemp will lead a seminar on Listening Evangelism (Friday evening and most of the day Saturday), only their focus will be on listening in “two directions” at once – to the person, and to the Holy Spirit. Chris and the Kemps serve with Presbyterian Reformed Ministries International, a multi-denominational ministry whose major focus is enabling people in the Reformed stream to be responsive to the Spirit’s working in our midst, and his empowerment for ministry – in this case, evangelism. You can check out the broader ministry of PRMI on their website: http://prmi.org. They have been a valuable resource for us in teaching about the Holy Spirit.
To register for either or both of these, please call or email Patience Flynn, the St. Giles Administrator (804/282-9763, firstname.lastname@example.org).
With you in Jesus,
