How Well Do you know Humility?

Take this quiz from our Discipleship Team:

Which of these is humility? (If you don’t think one or more is an illustration of humility, then what is it that is mistaken for humility?)

1. DeVonna wins an award at work for producing an absolutely exceptional project that wins a once-in-a-lifetime contract for the company. When people gather around and congratulate her and “brag” on her, she says, “It was nothing. Anyone could have done it.” She believes she is being humble.

2. Georgia’s pantyhose fall down as she rises to take the stage to receive an award. She is mortified and calls in sick the rest of the week. She felt extremely humbled by that embarrassing event and thinks it could affect her for years.

3. Juan is CEO of a local business. He read Good to Great, by Jim Collins, who showed that great leaders are humble. So, Juan puts Collins’ advice into action by admitting faults, not taking credit for the company’s successes, asking for workers’ opinions. He has found this to be invaluable in inspiring the company and getting people to work hard and be loyal to the company. He feels he has been faithful at acting humbly, and it has paid off.

4. Sean, a member of a local church, never takes credit for his accomplishments, is quick to point out his failings, is modest, and feels sincerely that others are better than he is both as a worker and as a person. In fact, he sincerely has little regard for his own abilities. He believes he is humble.
